When should I consider resetting my iPhone?

When your iPhone or iPad is misbehaving and initial solutions are not working, a factory reset may be necessary. A full reset will erase everything on the device such as contacts, music files, photos, etc., so it should only be done when nothing else works to fix issues with crashing or freezing problems that you can’t identify otherwise.

With all the new technology in our lives, it can be easy to get confused. Resetting your device is a great way of clearing out any problems that may cause you to have slowed performance or other issues with how things work on your phone. Whether you are selling your iPhone or giving it as a gift, make sure to delete all of the sensitive data stored on your phone. The buyer will be able to access any social media profiles and financial information that they want if not deleted beforehand.

They could also see personal photos and videos which may include private moments! Privacy is a big deal nowadays. If you don’t want strangers to be able to access your private moments and steal information about yourself, take the all necessary precautions before selling or giving away an iPhone.

What are soft reset, a force restart, and a factory reset – Difference between them

Restarting your iPhone using the software option will not result in loss of data. This is true for a force restart, which can be done through hardware buttons when the touchscreen isn’t responsive or apps start acting up.

A factory reset however wipes all content and settings from the device as if it were brand new out of its box with no personal information to speak off.

If you’re not able to solve your issues, we recommend factory resetting your iPhone as a last resort. This will erase all of the data from it and should only be done if you are giving away or selling the device.

How to soft reset your Apple iPhone

The easiest way to soft reset your iPhone is by turning it off. Unlike a factory reset, you will not lose any data and the phone should be back up in running as if nothing happened! It’s recommended that those experiencing minor problems do this instead of going through with a full-on restart because there are fewer risks for lost files or photos being deleted from one’s device.

Apple changed how to perform a soft reset on their X, 11, and 12 series iPhones this could be done by holding down 2 buttons All you’re doing here is turning your phone off.

How to factory reset the iPhone

If you’re looking for a complete reset, then here’s what to do.

Back up your iPhone first

  1. iCloud and iTunes are great ways to back up your iPhone. iCloud backs it all up for you automatically, but if you want more control over the process or have an older iOS device without Apple Pay capability, then iTunes is a good option.
  2. It’s been a while and you’re not sure when the last time was that your phone backed up to iCloud? The date will show on Settings > iCloud > Backup. If it hasn’t done a backup before, tap Back Up Now and follow the instructions for easy setup!
  3. To back up your device, you’ll need to plug it into a PC or Mac via the charging cable. Click on the iPhone/iPad icon and then select Backup from iTunes (or The Finder).

Once you’re confident that your backup is safe, it’s time to wipe the slate clean. This process will restore factory settings on your iPad or iPhone and make sure any data from before is erased.

1. Reset your iPhone or iPad

2. Go to Settings > General > Reset

3. Select Erase All Content and Settings

4. You will be asked to enter the passcode again and then confirm that you want to erase all content on this device by tapping Erase iPhone (or iPad)

  1. You’ll need to enter your Apple ID password to confirm the action.

5. The phone will restart with factory settings after erasing everything from its memory.

What happens if you forget to backup before wiping your phone

If you’re looking for a way to get those photos back, don’t worry- there are likely other backups of your device that you might not be aware of.

You can check if your iPhone is backing up to iCloud by opening Settings and scrolling down the list of options until you find “iCloud.” Tap on it, wait a few seconds for Manage Storage to show up, then tap that.

You will see all of your backups- some old ones from an older Apple device (you might be able to delete one here) or more recent iOS devices have their own individual backup in this section as well.

One of the backups should say that it is This iPhone or This iPad. Tap on one and you can see what has been, and isn’t being backed up. You have more control over your storage so you aren’t using all 5GB for backup purposes- but if that doesn’t work for you there’s an option to pay a small fee per month in order to get extra space!

There are some apps that you may think don’t need to be backed up because they can just be downloaded again from the App Store. But as it turns out, these downloads might not have your saved data- game progress or preferences for settings – so backing them up is a good idea!

How to rescue data from a wiped iDevice

Deleted data is gone forever. If you are unable to find a backup, there’s no hope of recovering what was once lost in the abyss that is deletion.

The data on an iOS device is automatically encrypted, and those backups are just the icing on top of this cake. It’s a guarantee that anything deleted will be gone forever without access to any other form of backup.

How to restore an iPhone

Who needs to start from scratch? With the touch of a button, you can restore your phone back to its original state.

You don’t have to go through all that effort again!
